31 March 2025, Chișinău - A total of 5,119 vouchers were redeemed during the session held between February 26 and March 23 as part of the EcoVoucher Program, which supports the replacement of old household appliances with new, energy-efficient ones.

Beneficiaries used vouchers worth 6,000 MDL, covering up to 70% of the appliance cost, to purchase refrigerators (including models with integrated freezers) and washing machines.

As a result, in the first session of the new program edition, voucher recipients purchased 2,283 refrigerators and 2,836 washing machines. Since the launch of this session, the CNED Green Line has handled over 3,600 calls from beneficiaries, providing prompt assistance and guidance throughout the voucher verification and usage process.

The EcoVoucher program was launched to help vulnerable households reduce their electricity costs by replacing old appliances with new, energy-efficient ones, aligning with the Moldovan government’s efforts to enhance energy efficiency in the residential sector.

"Through the EcoVoucher program, we aim to help families lower their energy expenses and improve home comfort. We see that beneficiaries are considering energy efficiency classes and comparing similar appliances in terms of functionality, price, and energy consumption. This enables them to make informed decisions, understanding from the start how energy consumption will impact their household budget", said Ion Muntean, Director of CNED.

Thanks to the program’s implementation, consumers will benefit from lower electricity bills by using more energy-efficient appliances and lighting systems.

"With Norway’s support, we are giving vulnerable families in Moldova the opportunity to replace outdated appliances with new, energy-efficient ones. The EcoVoucher program is not just about financial savings - it is also about educating people on making the right energy choices. We provide them with the necessary tools to improve their daily lives while also protecting the environment", stated Kamilla H. Kolshus, Chargé d’Affaires at the Norwegian Embassy Office in Chișinău.

“We are pleased to see that EcoVouchers help Moldovan families replace old household appliances with new ones that have good efficiency ratings. This round aims to provide vouchers for up to 32,000 families, supporting electricity savings in the short and long run. Additionally, consumers are learning about the importance of energy labels and choosing efficient appliances that reduce energy consumption and environmental impact", emphasized Christian Borchard, Implementation Manager of GIZ’s E4M Component funded by Norway.

The current round of the program, with an estimated budget of €7.5 million, is implemented by CNED and the Ministry of Energy under the "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova" (E4M) project. E4M is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by GIZ and co-financed by the European Union, Germany, Norway, and Denmark. The current EcoVoucher round is financed by Norway.

EcoVoucher has been developed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with EU support.
